Dr. Simbarashe Takuva, MBChB, MSc, DTM&H.
Simba Takuva is a clinical epidemiologist who is currently Programme Lead and Regional Medical Liaison for the HIV Vaccine Trials Network (HVTN) African region operations. He is an adjunct lecturer at the School of Health Systems and Public Health, University of Pretoria and is also jointly affiliated to the Perinatal HIV Research Unit of the University of the Witwatersrand where he conducts HIV outcomes research. He serves in a number of national expert committees and is an editorial board member for three international peer reviewed public health and epidemiology journals. He has extensive experience in HIV clinical medicine and vaccine clinical development.   

Dr. Tonya Esterhuizen, PhD

Tonya is a Senior Lecturer/ Biostatistician at Stellenbosch University’s Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, within the Division of Epidemiology and Biostatistics. With 16 years experience, she has gained expertise in conducting and analysing Epidemiological research spanning a wide variety of medical conditions, mainly concentrating on HIV/AIDS. She has a MSc in Epidemiology from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Ms Esterhuizen is involved in biostatistical consulting, collaborative research, and teaching, mentoring and promoting evidence based practises within various undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. Part of her work also involves working with local and international Cochrane Review authors and groups, assisting in the preparation of statistical methods in review protocols and meta- analysis of data. Shen is a founding member of the Southern African Clinical Epidemiology Association, and has many collaborative publications in applied biostatistics and epidemiology, in various health disciplines

Dr Moleen Zunza, PhD

Moleen completed her Ph.D. in the area of Prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV and infant feeding, at Stellenbosch University, South Africa (2016). She has been involved in multiple research projects as principal investigator and co-investigator, which resulted in (co)authorship of 15 peer-reviewed publications. Her interests are in identifying simple solutions to most challenging healthcare needs of people living in developing countries through the use of the best epidemiological and biostatistics methods for collecting, analysing and communicating data in ways that makes the greatest impact

Dr. Olatunji Adetokunboh, PhD

Olatunji is a Public Health Physician/Researcher with postgraduate trainings in Paediatrics and Clinical Epidemiology. He has extensive experience in management of HIV, Tuberculosis, Reproductive Health, Maternal and Child Health developmental programmes across sub-Saharan Africa. He is also an accomplished researcher and teacher with interest mainly in Global Health, Evidence-based Research, Infectious Diseases Epidemiology and Vaccinology. Dr Adetokunboh has published numerous peer reviewed papers in reputable international medical journals. He is also a peer reviewer for public health and infectious diseases journals. He is a member of American College of Epidemiology, an alumnus of the prestigious Emerging Voices for Global Health (2013), member of Global Burden of Diseases Network and was recognised by United Nations Children’s Fund and International Conference on AIDS and STIs in Africa (ICASA) in 2013 as Children and AIDS visionary. Actively participates in conferences, collaborative research and scientific exchanges.

Lwando Kondlo,

Lwando is a Research Data Specialist in the HIV/AIDS, STIs and TB (HAST) unit. He holds an MSc in Statistics at the University of the Western Cape. Before joining the HSRC, he worked at Project Phidisa – an HIV/AIDS treatment research initiative in Pretoria as a Biostatistician for more than 4 years. He has also worked for organisations such as Statistics South Africa and the Medical Research Council as a statistician. His areas of research interest include, Survey research methods, modelling of longitudinal data and multivariate spatial statistics. Mr Kondlo's publication record spans the authoring and co-authoring of several research paper as lead statistician and has presented his work in nationally and internationally conferences. His most recent work, published in PLOS One, investigated Morbidity and Mortality according to latest CD4 count among HIV positive in South Africa. More articles are awaiting publication in peer-reviewed journals.
